Child Obeisity or Child Abuse?

Some people may say if a child is obeise in younger years of their life, it is the parents fault considering they are the ones that feed and take care of them. Children years 1-8 really still dont have a say for what is in the house to eat and what they are allowed to eat. Some parents will also often force there children to eat at certain times of the day with the rest of the family. At that age you are also usually expected to eat what you are served. Parents may be over feeding there kids and the child has no choice but to eat it due to not wanting to be punished. I believe that parents often are to forceful in how much there child needs to eat. If the child is hungry he/she will eat or simply ask to eat just like any human being would. If the child is full he/she is full, their shouldnt be any questioning considering its been proven to be bad for your intestines to force more food than your body can handle. Dr. Oz the television show a few days ago were having a debate on this subject. Is it child abuse to have a child that is obeise? There has been a couple incidents in the states where children have actually been taken away from their parents due to unhealthy feeding. Although its not always the amount of food children are being served, it is also the quality of the food being served. Some parents buy junk food for snacks instead of fruit or vegtables. Then again the child can't control what food is in the house to eat or what the parents are buying at the grocery store. Therefore they are being abused without even knowing it.

  1. I agree that over feeding your child is abusive but in my opinion i don't think it plays a great role in society.I think that parents understand their kids enough, to know when they can eat and cannot. Another problem that you stated was feeding junk food to kids, in excess it's bad for the kids but it should not be abolished fully. Kids should have the right to eat small portions of junk food. Another reason for buying junk food may be because the parents do not have the money to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables or they are not conscious about the harm of consuming junk food. In my opinion I don't see this type of abuse in North America.

  2. its sooo true. i remember i saw an episode of dr.phil where a child was 3 years old and almost 200 pounds. the definition of abuse is .. "bad or improper treatment" and in the case of not taking care of your childs health it should be considered a crime for people to let there childs health get so out of hand.
