I can't think of anything to write about

At this point in time, I have 3 more blogs to do and I can't think of a thing to write about. The only thing I can think of writing about is the same thing that Aaron already wrote about - blogging. When I initially got this project, I assumed it would be a cake-walk. "Oh, I'd be able to finish them all in a week, it's no big deal.", said I. But after the first blog was due, I found it increasingly hard to write about anything.

As I write this, it is the last day of school. Class is ending in a few minutes, and I'm only on my second paragraph of my 4th blog, and I have 2 more blogs to do. Am I gonna get them done? Not a chance, but I'm doing what I can within the time span that I have left.

Well, this is pretty much it. A mediocre blog about nothing.

Duke Never Forever - 15 Years For THIS?

Duke Nukem Forever was initially announced over a decade ago to be the follow up to the popular first person shooter Duke Nukem 3D. The game was crass, rude, and just plain fun. Duke Nukem Forever is the exact same thing with a graphics update (and I use the term update loosely). Ignoring the cover-shooter style that make up the majority of the first person genre these days (Call of Duty and Battlefield are the best examples), it goes for straight up run-and-gunning like the old school Quake and Doom games, and I think that that's great, it's good to have a change of pace in a largely similar genre, but when it's as sloppy as Duke Nukem Forever, there's just no excuse.

The game was released June 14th, 2011. It started development in 1996. See the gap there? Duke Nukem Forever has gone down in history as the king of vaporware (a term used to describe products that were announced and never officially cancelled), and it probably should've stayed that way, as it's 5 hours long, completely linear, with ridiculous load times and full of jokes that connect mostly with a 12 year old audience. It had the potential to be a fantastic sequel to a great shooter, but due to constant development delays and the switching of hands it just turned out to be a garbled mess.

Since it's release earlier this week, the game has gotten mostly negative reviews and lackluster sales. Hopefully this won't be the end of Duke though, as although the game has many faults it does have the potential to be a fun shooter if it wasn't so dated.

We're SO Not Prepared for Zombies, Dude

Now, we all know that one day some of those undead bastards are gonna rise from their grave and start muckin' up all the shiny things we cherish. But who's ready for it? Maybe Jim in Alabama with a dozen rifles in his abode and the surrounding land covered in land-mines and bear traps, but the average joe is pretty much screwed. We're all so comfortable in our nice warm homes that when some jerk with half of his face torn off and a nasty infection comes knockin' on our doors, we wouldn't hesitate open them with open arms, straight into the slavering jaws of a zombie. Welp, there goes my jugular and oop I now hunger eternally for the flesh of the living! Tough break, kid, you were unprepared.

The cities are a deathwish. They'll be the first ones hit and are a haven for the members of the undead, whereas the countryside is much safer (for the most part). The military is pretty much cannon fodder despite all their heavy machinery and automatic weaponry, only adding to the danger of getting our arms chomped on. Keeping away from the city or at least staying in the outskirts is your best chance for survival. A floor or two of an apartment building is good for large groups of survivors as you can always keep the stairwell barricaded (to an extent so you can send out scavenging parties).

Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that if some scientist in a lab accidentally made some virus that reanimated the dead, then we'd be straight screwed, plain and simple. Our world would be lost to the undead menace and that'd pretty much be that. So stock up on your canned goods and ammunition people, because they're coming, it's just only a matter of when.

VID-Y-O-GAMES

Hot diggidy darn, children, this is my first blog post and I am ready to get the proverbial party started. First off, what's the diggidy-deal with video games nowadays? I mean, a good chunk of video games are either movie cash-ins, bland first person shooters with linear hallways and some sort of failed gimmick, or bugged out messes where you'll get stuck in a wall and rotate endlessly. What happened to the good ole days of the original Resident Evil games or Super Mario 64, or even Bubble Bobble. BUBBLE. BOBBLE. Seriously though, only a handful of games really catch my attention these days, and odds are most of them have been made (or at least published) by the same few companies.

Did I ever tell you kids about the time they made a video game about me? I was working as a par-time plumber in Little Italy when a couple of them Japanese fellows came up to me and offered me a multi-million dollar video game deal. They called me Super Mario and I was an instant hit with the children! Sure, the little pixel representation of myself doesn't look EXACTLY like me but I still got recognized on the street a few times. Still gettin' paid for it these 20 or so years later. Awwwwright.

Anyways, games need to stop being awful and start being great, like the Final Fantasies and the Metal Gear Solids and the Silent Hills (well most of them). More developers need to start caring about what their time is going into instead of just pushing it out as fast as you can to make a quick buck (I'm looking at you, EA!). Long story short, I'm mad that video games aren't as cool as they used to be, a bloo bloo bloo. Well, that's what I have to say, so if you disagree you can just deal with it, boyyyyyy.
