As we all know, the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup on wednesday night, after beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-0. As much as I love Vancouver, and im crushed that Boston won, the riot that took place shortly after is just ridiculous and completely unnecesarry. Sadly, this isnt the first time that Vancouver has rioted after losing a huge game, such as the stanley cup. They also rioted in 1994. Journalists blame this riot on the city's anarchists, and claim that these 'people' had only one goal, and that was to watch the city burn. I understand that Canada is very hockey oriented, and that we take our sport very, very seriously, but to start a riot cause we lost the Stanely Cup to the boston bruins? You're supposed to be grown men and women, acting responsibly and maturely, setting an example for your children, not acting like you're 8 and basically throwing a tempertantrum because you didnt get what you want, and that wouldve been having the Canucks win the Stanley Cup. WELL GUESS WHAT? THEY DIDNT WIN and starting a riot clearly is NOT the way to handle your anger. The riot involved burning cars, unconcious people laying on the ground from being beaten mercilessly, and uncountable fights between grown men and women. The beautiful streets were destroyed, and reeked of tear gas. People were thrown in jail, and children as young as 5 and 6 were amoungst this. Honestly, when i heard that this had happened, i was actually upset and embarrassed to call myself a Canadian. Its one thing to be upset, but to honestly cause a riot? Thats down right pathetic and i hope that EVERYONE who took part in that riot, is ashamed of themselves.

  1. Too true. The fact that people would actually riot about something like losing a game is just insane. Emphasis on the word "game". Riot's are something that I can stand behind if there is a good cause around it, like liberating people from some sort of catastrophe, but losing an NHL game? There is no good reason that people should have reacted in this way, and about the kids being in the vicinity as well, really adds to the negatives of this event. It shows them that if you don't get what you want, it's alright to break some property. It's a horrible example, and will make this cycle of ignorance continue with the next generation because those kids when grown up will say "that's what my dad did when it happened to him".
    Great blog and strong points!

  2. I agree that the riot should have not taken place. Vancouver has had a great session, and we as Canadians should be proud of their contributions. The anger of the people had started the protest. I agree that the people involved did not do the right thing. But sometimes ones anger is so high that they can't control there selves. So i could see both sides. The people involved in the riot should be ashamed, but I can also see one being angry and upset. And i do not think creating a riot is the best solution to reduce their anger! Great Blog!

  3. Vancouver only did this because they were mad. i bet some random bruins fan in Vancouver asked the guy " you mad bro", then a bunch of fights started. The people of Vancouver have to grow up really cause it just shows how good of a place it is to live in Vancouver. Just because your team lost the cup, doesn't mean they have the right to start fires and all this stupidness. overall great blog i totally agree with you, although i am still mad Vancouver lost, but you dont see me starting a riot ;)
