Every time we walk down the street we are shown sexualised images trying to sell a product ...... or are they just selling sex !!!! the other day i was trying to look for some clothes that i would like to purchase at American apparel and i came across very sexualised images ( claiming to be selling the clothes ), it was shocking to see completely exposed women, its like a form of legal porn !!! this store is popular among many tweens ........ so when they go to this site what are they being told??? that these clothes are for sexy girls ..... therefore these girls will get the message to "be sexier" girls as young as 7 are hearing the message that they have to be sexy....... the media is taking away little girls innocence, and making them grow up WAYYYY to fast !!!. but if you think of it ....... does grown up mean being sexy ... NOO !!! grown up is being able to see past the fake and unrealistic messages that the media tries to push at us !! so we need to take a stand against companies that sexualise their products by selling sex rather than just the product !!!
I do agree with you that some of the advertising especially for American Apperal is very risky. However young girls don’t usually buy clothes in stories such as these because of the maturity of the clothing and the censoring parents do when they take they're child shopping. Some of the photos shown are very exposed, but you would see that sort of picture for any model wearing a bathing suit or in lingerie ads. I like how strongly you feel about this topic it shows in your writing and I think you did a good job of portraying your point of view to the rest of us.

ReplyDeleteAGREED. This is one reason I do not ENTER these stores besides the fact they don't fit to my appearance.
Just looking at girls walking around in the clothing as well is like a walking sexual ad. Leggings that basically show everything, to the see through tops that don't hide much. The you see young girls wearing this. It also worries me that the parents don't stop them! It's as if it just accepted into society that sex is the way to go.

ReplyDelete"I agree with this blog very much. Every one always complains that as each generation goes on, the kids get more and more sexual. Maybe if there weren't ads like these, kids would only be kids without having to worry about sex at the age of 10"
